1B. Pushing the Design Envelope with Fire-Rated Glazing

Fire-rated glazing can add LEED v4 credits toward project certification. This course will help architects understand the sustainability aspects of fire-rated glass, and how they can help achieve LEED v4 credits. We will review Health Product Declarations (HDPs), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and LEED points, and provide information on what the transparency documents need and why they are needed to gather LEED credits.

  • Details the way in which below-grade waterproofing is critical to the long term performance of a structure
  • Assess project and site-specific considerations for inclusion in the design and specification of below-grade waterproofing systems
  • Identify the key differences between common waterproofing systems, including pre-applied and post-applied technologies
  • Better manage risk through the development of comprehensive below-grade waterproofing specifications (i.e. substrate considerations, QA/QC, detailing etc.)

2B. Navigating Embodied Carbon, Operational Energy, & Occupant Comfort

This presentation will provide background information on modeling tools to demonstrate how both embodied carbon and operational carbon ( whole building LCA) are determined for buildings. The impact of both of these measures will then be analyzed to demonstrate their impact on occupant health, wellbeing and comfort. The analysis will provide examples using Thermal, Hygrothermal (envelope), Lighting, Daylighting and Acoustic modeling.
